John Newton Quote

As my wife Jayne and I have walked through some trying times concerning her health, God brought this quote from John Newton to me:

Everything is necessary that he sends. Nothing can be necessary that he withholds.

If it’s in your life it’s because He knows you need it – even though you think its bad. If it’s not in your life He knows you don’t need it – even though you think you do.

Why? Because there’s an order to your life. Your Father is monitoring you life – letting things into your life to teach you – to shape you. It may not look like it to you – but there is an order – a plan – it’s just not your plan

Remember, you will never learn who you are without suffering – it shows you your faults and flaws – it shows you your need for Him to save you from yourself and your idolatry

When you are stuck or in a difficult place – God is not actually bringing you into conflict with your spouse, your boss, your friend, or your situations – God is actually bringing you into contact with yourself and your idols

Key: Pay close attention to what you turn to in the midst of your trials. Who or what are you trusting in to save you? God knows that the situation you are in will reveal your true self and the idolatry of your heart. His plan is to lead you to repent and turn to Him.

Hey man. Hope your wife suffers well! This same topic came to my mind yesterday as I was thinking through gospel in God story. The thing is...

...probably you know more than me the pentecostal mindset: if you have faith you will get healed! if you are sick you are probably sinful.

man, it was hard to argue that worldview. You mentioned that if person doesnt want to suffer, its a question of idols. is it so that this person who thinks Faith-heals it all and Jesus has healed it all, hasnt biblicaly thought throw the Restore part?

PS. 15 youth got yesterday saved by the good news gospel:) thanks for investing to Estonia!

Praise God for the harvest (the 15 youth who were saved)!

I'm not sure if I fully understood what you were writing, but let me try to answer according to what I think you were saying.

I agree that the prayer of faith offered up does bring about healing. And yet, there are times when God chooses not to heal (we see several cases of this in the Scripture AND we know that eventually all of us will die - in these cases faith leads to ultimate healing as we will be given a resurrection body that will never get sick). So, the answer isn't always - "You don't have faith". Sometimes God has a plan that we aren't aware of and the faith we have is in God's divine plan and ultimate healing power (it's not always immediate healing).

As far as Jayne is concerned - I believe God has been purifying her faith through the sickness AND he is healing her as well. In his Sovereign will he is accomplishing more than we could have ever imagined.

As far as the Newton quote - many of us are facing difficulties in life (Not just sickness) and often we think the difficulties are something that God would never want or allow for us. But this isn't the case. His Word tells us that our Father loves us and disciplines us because of his love. The trials we experience are part of his discipline (not condemning punishment - but discipline - because there is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ).

So, we must learn to embrace discipline from our Father as His love and his means of leading us in sanctification.
